I agree about it being metaphorical my dear friend and colleague. Another friend, Dr. Howard Teich, on his website "solar-lunar.com" talks about the metaphor of complementarity between the sun and moon. Over many decades he and I have compared Indigenous twin-hero stories as relates to solar/lunar flowing balance. The Sun and Moon are not equal in size, brightness, or function yet neither "masters" the other as via your citing McGilcrist. Mastery implies subordination: one force bending another to its will. But in the sun-moon model, complementarity works precisely because each body operates at full autonomy and planetary coherence depends on neither overriding the other. Your saying balance might be 10/90 actually supports this. The moon at 10% of a night cycle is not being mastered by the sun; it is simply doing less at that time. So your analogy beautifully exposes the difference from McGilchrist's own framing of the right hemisphere as the "master" and left as "emissary." It is about the priority of orientation, not domination. Wow, we should write a book together, eh eh. Oh wait, we already did: Restoring the Kinship Worldview: Indigenous Voices Introduce 28 Precepts for Rebalancing Life on Planet Earth.
